About the shop

A workshop run
by car people.

Speed Tuning Shop started in a rented bay in Carindale in 2017 with one hoist, a laptop full of tuning software and a stubborn idea: measure everything, charge what's quoted, and never send a car out the door half-checked. That bit hasn't changed.

How it started

From one hoist
to three bays

Dmitri spent years tuning cars out of other people's workshops before signing the lease on Scrub Road. The first year was mostly ECU remaps done on a borrowed dyno — until the waiting list got long enough to justify buying one.

The dyno cell went in during 2020, Coop joined to run the fabrication bench, and Ang came on board for chassis work in 2023. These days the shop does everything from a same-day Stage 1 on a Golf to full turbo builds that take a week on the hoist.

Wins along the way

Nine years,
short version

2017
The lease gets signed

One bay, one hoist, a lot of evening remaps. First hundred customers mostly came from a WRX forum thread.

2020
The dyno cell

AWD chassis dyno installed. Everything since then gets measured before and after — no exceptions, no seat-of-the-pants claims.

2023
Full crew

Fabrication bench and a third hoist. Ang brings the chassis side in-house — alignments, coilovers, track setups.

2026
1,400 cars and counting

Most weeks it's diesel utes and turbo hatches. Some weeks it's a full build that keeps the whole shop busy until Friday.

How we work

Three rules we
won't bend

Measure it or it didn't happen

Baseline run before, proof run after. If a job doesn't move the numbers, we'll tell you it wasn't worth doing.

The quote is the invoice

Fixed pricing on every job. If we find something extra along the way, we ring you first — you decide, not us.

No grenades

We don't write tunes that make big numbers for one dyno run and a tow truck after. Reliability margin is built into every map.

The crew

Who's actually
on the tools

Small on purpose. You'll know who worked on your car because they'll hand you the keys.

Dmitri reviewing dyno logs on the workshop laptop
Owner / Tuner — 14 yrs

Dmitri

Ex-dealership tech who got bored of service schedules. Writes every custom tune that leaves the shop and still drives a modified STI to work, which keeps him honest.

Coop fitting a fabricated exhaust system under a car on the hoist
Fabrication — 11 yrs

Coop

Boilermaker by trade, exhaust obsessive by choice. Runs the TIG bench — dump pipes, custom systems, intercooler plumbing. His welds get photographed more than most cars.

Ang torquing suspension components after a coilover install
Chassis — 8 yrs

Ang

Does the suspension, brakes and alignments, then tests them properly at Lakeside. If he suggests a sway bar, it's because he's felt the difference in his own car.
